• Postdoctoral Research Associate

University of Colorado, Boulder

DESCRIPTION

We seek to fill a Research Associate (“post-doctoral” researcher-level) position to work on an institution-wide educational transformation project in the Center for STEM Learning (CSL) and College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) at the University of Colorado (CU) Boulder. The overall project seeks to create a process and tools for systemic transformation of departmental evaluation of teaching. Ultimately, we hope to improve teaching and learning on the Boulder campus, through collective learning and cultural change, and by promoting the use of research-based instructional and assessment strategies (see below for additional details on the project). Sixteen departments / units across three colleges are currently engaged in this process and the project is expanding to work with all departments in the College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS). This position will largely be focused on programmatic efforts (e.g., facilitating working groups within CEAS departments), with opportunities for dissemination through research and publication.

The Teaching Quality Framework project takes a systematic and research-based approach to transformation in education, particularly focusing on the deployment of scholarly evaluation tools and processes we use in teaching evaluation. It is part of a broader effort that seeks to improve undergraduate education at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU), through collective learning and cultural change at the departmental and institutional levels, that is being coordinated through our Center for STEM Learning (CSL). Sixteen departments / units across three colleges are currently engaged in this process and the project is expanding to work with all departments in the College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS). This position will largely be focused on programmatic efforts (e.g., facilitating working groups within CEAS departments), with some opportunities for dissemination through research and publication.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The postdoc on this project will act as both a facilitator and researcher on the project. As a facilitator, the postdoc will actively support departmental change through facilitation of departmental working groups that seek to identify scholarly measures of teaching effectiveness. Additionally, the postdoc will partner with faculty professional development experts in facilitating efforts as well as institutionalizing and scaling the process for improved teaching evaluation.

  • Promote and facilitate campus-wide educational transformation efforts.

  • These include, but are not limited to: facilitating conversations around a framework for improving teaching quality on our campus; and facilitating faculty working groups, Departmental Action Teams (DATs), in CEAS.

  • Identify and implement both quantitative and qualitative assessments to measure project effectiveness and contribute to the knowledge base around educational transformation.

  • Supporting faculty and departments in the change process by helping identify tools and assessments to improve teaching and learning measures in multiple disciplines.
