The Department of Biology, York University invites applications for a teaching-focused (alternate stream) tenure‐track position in Ecology at the rank of Assistant Lecturer, to commence July 1, 2019. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses and to provide leadership in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular development and pedagogical innovation. Please note there are two alternate stream ecology searches currently in the Faculty of Science, one in the Department of Biology and the other in Natural Science (NATS).
Candidates must possess a PhD in Biological Science (specifically in the field of Ecology), and have demonstrated experience in science education and biology education research, particularly post-Ph.D.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or clear potential for excellence in teaching university-level courses and have a strong commitment to pedagogy and student success. This includes experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment. Applicants will demonstrate a proven dedication to using innovative, effective evidence-based approaches to teaching university-level science, including innovation in experiential education and technology-enhanced learning. The successful candidate will be expected to align and integrate lecture and laboratory curricula to learning outcomes. Applicants should have experience developing or re-designing courses and teaching laboratories. The successful applicant will be expected to design a new second-year experiential laboratory course and may participate in revising and enhancing existing undergraduate teaching laboratories, as well as teaching ecology and evolutionary biology courses at all levels to both science and non-science students.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative approach to undergraduate teaching, and the ability to work effectively as part of a teaching team and within the department. As well, the successful applicant will work closely with the Educational Development Specialist in the Faculty of Science to develop new experiential learning opportunities within the Department of Biology. This position includes service. Applicants should provide evidence of contributions to service, outreach, and pertinent activities in and outside academia.

Please provide context and reasons for what is included in the teaching dossier (e.g., annotated course materials).
