Loyola University Chicago

Loyola University Chicago (LUC) College of Arts & Sciences, Department of Biology, seeks qualified candidates for a newly authorized, full-time position in Microbiology, beginning in the 2019-2020 academic year. The position is for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. The Department of Biology has 48 full-time faculty members serving more than 1,600 majors and students from associated university programs at the Lake Shore Campus on Chicago’s North Side. For more information on the department and its faculty’s research interests, visit our web sites at http://www.luc.edu/biology; https://www.luc.edu/biology/aboutus/facultyresearch.

Candidates are expected to teach microbiology to undergraduate science majors. Specifically, the incumbent will teach two courses each semester in general microbiology as well as advanced courses in their specialty area. They are also expected to run a productive research laboratory, involve undergraduate and graduate students in their research, and be competitive for external funding.

The successful candidate for this position will have a PhD in Microbiology or a related field, postdoctoral research experience, proven excellence in research, and experience teaching at the college level. Researchers in all areas of microbiology are welcome to apply, but preference will be given to applicants whose research can augment or complement ongoing research in the department.

Applicants should submit, by March 1, 2019, a current Curriculum Vitae, a research statement, and a teaching statement—including courses they are prepared to teach—and a letter of interest to www.careers.luc.edu. They also should provide the names and addresses of three individuals prepared to advise on their professional qualifications for this position. References will not be contacted immediately but might be consulted at subsequent points in the review process.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Applications received before March 1, 2019 will receive full consideration.
