The UA Little Rock Department of Chemistry invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in Organic Chemistry starting August 15, 2020. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Department of Chemistry is dedicated to high quality education at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a strong externally funded research program in any area of Organic Chemistry or related areas such as polymers, bioorganic, and organic materials. The candidate will be expected to teach Organic Chemistry courses including laboratories as a primary part of their teaching duties at both undergraduate and graduate levels. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Effectively teach students using evidence-based approaches;

  • Teach lower division, upper division, and graduate level courses in Organic Chemistry, including lectures and laboratories;

  • Teach freshman level courses in chemistry including general and fundamental chemistry, as needed;

  • Develop and teach hybrid or online courses, as needed;

  • Research activities at the undergraduate and graduate level including Masters and Ph. D. in applied science (chemistry) will be developed and maintained through funding obtained from granting agencies;

  • Establish and maintain a strong externally funded research program in any area of Organic Chemistry or related areas such as polymers, bioorganic, and organic materials;

  • Curriculum development and implementation;

  • Participation in outreach activities;

  • Service Activities to the department, college, university, and community;

  • Student Advising;

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Committed to the success of all students as indicated by prior efforts in teaching and/or mentoring and supervisory experience of employees;

  • Willingness to learn about and implement teaching approaches that support the success of all students, not just the ones that will succeed in spite of their learning environment;

  • Knowledge of simple laboratory equipment, techniques, and safety practices;

  • Knowledge of GC/MS, LC/MS, NMR, and other standard instrumentation available for applications in analytical analyses.

Required Education and/or Experience

 

Ph.D. in Chemistry. Expertise in Organic Chemistry topics. Background in Organic Chemistry with experiences on organics, catalysts, polymers, biochemicals, and/or nanomaterials would be the best fit with current department strengths and interests.

All PhD requirements must be completed before employment commences.
