Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence oversees a comprehensive teaching and learning center committed to teaching excellence and improved student learning, achieved through the development and implementation of programming that supports the use of best practices in instruction, pedagogical innovation, and student academic support.
The Director sets the direction of the Center as a professional hub that empowers faculty to incorporate interdisciplinary experiential learning into the curriculum; utilize evidence based best practices in quality course design and instruction; and lead in the innovative use of technology to advance teaching, learning, and scholarly activity. As head of the Center, the Director works collaboratively with academic and student support services to promote an effective teaching and learning environment that empowers students to access the full range of learning opportunities that the College affords. By creating opportunities for experimentation and fostering a collaborative learning community committed to ongoing research and assessment of teaching and learning strategies, the Director enables faculty to achieve their pedagogical goals and students to receive quality instruction that addresses their varied needs.
In addition, the Director will develop goals, strategies, and initiatives to achieve the Center’s mission; work collaboratively with institutional stakeholders to create curriculum and programs that enhance students’ learning, research skills, and learning experience; manage the Center’s budget; and identify needed resources and associated costs.
Collaborate with academic leadership, faculty, and other college stakeholders to assess needs, develop programming, and evaluate strategies to enhance the pedagogical knowledge and skills of faculty.
Collaborate with academic leadership, faculty, and other college stakeholders to incorporate interdisciplinary experiential learning into the curriculum and support students in identifying and pursuing experiential learning opportunities.
Collaborate with academic leadership, faculty, Information Technology and Library Services colleagues, and other college stakeholders on the vision and planning for emerging teaching initiatives.
Provide consultation to faculty and academic support staff on course design projects, curricular development and innovation, pedagogy, and instructional technology.
Organize and participate in conducting workshops, seminars, forums, and other forms of professional development in teaching.
Partner with senior administration, academic departments, faculty, and academic support staff to enhance instructional effectiveness in the design and planning of curricula, courses, learning environments, student learning assessment, and allocation of resources.
Collaborate with academic leadership, faculty, and other college stakeholders in the promotion of student/faculty collaborative research.
Oversee Experiential Learning Day.
Serve as a pedagogy resource for the college; serve on relevant committees and task forces; serve as a member of the Vice President for Academic Affairs’ co-curricular advisory team.
Promote inclusive teaching and awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion in programs, curricula, and classrooms, including providing guidance to ensure that the College adheres to best practices in universal design for learning.
Participate in the development and oversight of the budget for the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence.
Master’s degree in curriculum design or a related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of learning and curriculum design, innovative teaching approaches and learning and program assessment strategies.
Demonstrated knowledge of use, implementation and best practices for instructional technologies.
Ph.D. or Ed.D. and a minimum of four years’ experience in higher education.
Leadership experience in a campus teaching and learning center or a faculty development program.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to foster collaborative relationships.
Ability to support pedagogical innovation that addresses the needs of a diverse student body.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Evening and some weekend hours required.
